Down regulating…

Here’s Poppy at the end of a lovely week in Northumberland.

The holiday has been a good reminder of how important it is to ‘down regulate’ our systems in autoimmunity.

This means achieving a balance between ‘rest and digest’ and ‘fight or flight’ modes. Both are necessary, it’s all about the balance.

Our modern lifestyles tend to push us towards ‘fight or flight’, increasing inflammatory reactions and reducing our ability to digest and heal.

Anything we find soothing can help us transition into ‘rest and digest’: time in nature, focused slow breaths, gratitude, laughter, singing, connecting with friends, savouring our food, to name just a few - and they are all enjoyable!

The more regularly we do this, the more we retrain our bodies to do it automatically.
